An icon of Italian Rationalist design, the Genni lounge chair and matching ottoman were designed by Gabriele Mucchi in 1935 and later brought into production by Zanotta in 1982. Defined by its elegant tubular steel construction and black leather upholstery, the Genni remains remarkably contemporary, balancing architectural precision with a relaxed and comfortable form.

The sculptural chrome-plated steel frame supports a suspended leather seat, complemented by a cylindrical headrest and slender upholstered armrests. Steel spring suspension and an adjustable seat allow the chair to be set in two different positions, moving easily between a more upright seat and a relaxed lounging position. The matching ottoman extends the composition and completes its distinctive low-slung profile.

Originally conceived during the height of European modernism, the Genni demonstrates Mucchi's innovative use of bent tubular steel while placing an unusual emphasis on comfort. The contrast of polished chrome and softly aged black leather gives this example a particularly strong presence, with the natural patina adding warmth and character to its precise architectural lines.
